Legendary Indian restaurant from New York reopened in Tokyo
Nirvana New York (Indian) / ニルヴァーナ・ニューヨーク
An authentic Indian restaurant loved by many celebrities but closed after 32 years, has reopened five years after shutting its doors.
Nirvana New York, originally established in New York back in 1970, reopened in Tokyo Midtown, but with a new look and new city. Warren Wadud, the founder's son, has the task of following heavy traditions established by Nirvana's predecessor.
Unlike the original New York site, the restaurant is divided into two areas, dining and terrace. Vivid Missoni fabric and pictures and ornaments reminiscent of the old restaurant abound. Precious green in the middle of Tokyo? You bet! At Nirvana it's part of the ambiance and spreads out in front of you like a meadow waiting for Spring blossoms, all to make you wonder what country you're in.
Terrace seating is spacious and highly recommended, weather permitting. The lunch menu is buffet and daily specials can keep you coming back. Lunch full course meals are available but require advance reservation. The Dinner Menu is either full course or ala carte, with vegetarian menus also on tap anytime.
Lounge and terrace dining is 500 yen during Happy Hour (Mon-Fri., 5-7 p.m.). English menu and English-speaking staff available.
